This Camillus knife is a real piece of American war history!  This is a 1962 - early 1967 Vietnam era, "CAMILLUS JET PILOTS SURVIVAL KNIFE." Thisvintage combat knife & sheath would be great to addto your knife collection! The pommel end of the knifestill has a lot of the original "florescent paint" on it. TheCamillus factory applied this paint so that the pilot could find the knife atnight. The Jet Pilots Survival Knife wasdeveloped in 1957 in cooperation with the Navy Bureau of Aeronautics WeaponsBoard. In 1
962, due to the complaints by pilots, the blade was shortened from 6 to 5 inches. The pommel is undated, meaning this knife was born between 1962 and early 1967 when Camillus started stamping the pommel nut with the date ofmanufacture.
The knife overall measures 9.5" and the blade is stamped CAMILLUS/NY.  The leather wrapped handle is tight and secure and offers a solid area togrip. The leather wrap area of the handle measures 3 3/8" long and is invery good used vintage condition. The blade has retained some ofits original black Parkerizing. The 2 1/4" long steel finger guard has twofactory holes, identifying this knife as a "Jet Pilot's Survival Knife."
The original leather sheath is included and it features a working fastening strap anda wide belt slot area. This heavy-duty sheath has intactstitching and 11 secure rivets. This 10.5" long sheath fits the knife well and showssigns of usage and wear.
